Theatre Director
Mullen High School is seeking to hire an energetic committed individual to serve as a Director of Performing Arts/Drama Teacher.
This is a part- time, at- will opening for the remainder of the 2025-2026 School Year.
Position Overview Mullen High School is seeking to hire a faith-filled, energetic, committed educator to serve as Theatre Director. The Director will be in charge of developing and implementing the theater program for Mullen High School. The Director will stage, prepare and direct 1 student stage production this spring, as well as foster an appreciation of Theater, and provide a joyful and supportive learning environment for dramatic development. The applicant must be able to plan, manage and produce student productions, overseeing all aspects of performance. The ideal candidate will be an integral member of Mullen’s Fine Arts Department. This position could grow to more shows and/or a teaching position next year.
This is a part- time, at- will position for the one show in the Spring Semester Salary Range: $2,000-$4000 depending on education and background Mullen reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range
Essential Job Functions Catholic and Lasallian Identity
● Understands, emphasizes and supports the Lasallian and Catholic nature of the school at all times and through all responsibilities and programs.
● Models the role of director and teacher to promote student behavior that is supportive, and conducive, to the implementation of the school’s instructional programs and goals.
● Exemplifies and upholds the expectations and actions of Lasallian professionalism among all faculty. Theatre Director
● Designs and conducts recruitment/outreach programs to attract new theater participants.
● Sponsors the high school drama club and chapter of the International Thespian Society, an honor society for theater students.
● Produces and directs plays for school and public performances.
● Auditions students to select cast and assign parts.
● Rehearses and drills students to ensure they master parts.
● Assigns non-performing students to backstage production tasks, such as constructing, painting, moving scenery; managing properties and costuming and operating stage lighting and sound equipment.
● Selects script for production in consultation with the Principal.
● Sees that all royalties, rental fees, and other fees/bills associated with a production are paid and maintains an accurate record of all expenses and receipts.
● Secures and reserves rehearsal and performance facilities.
● Organizes, plans, and directs the respective play including being responsible for:
○ All publicity and programs
○ Costume and properties rental and purchase
○ Lighting and sound design and application
○ Set design and construction
○ Securing ushers
○ Developing a rehearsal schedule
○ Organizing and managing ticket sales
○ And any other duty necessary to the success of a production.
● Establishes performance requirements, enforces Mullen’s academic requirements, and verifies each student’s eligibility to participate in theater activities.
● Ensures the safety of students by adhering to both stage safety while on stage and general school rules and regulations.
● Submits budget needs annually in accordance with established timelines and guidelines.
● Orders all supplies and materials necessary for theater-related activities in accordance with established procedures and budget allocations.
Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in related subjects is required
● Teaching certificate preferred.
● Strong commitment and desire to work with youth and adults in a collaborative environment.
● Enjoy the challenge of implementing new directing and teaching methods and educational tools in an ever changing and strategic environment.
● Ability to utilize technology and integrate the use of technology to instruct and provide feedback on student's performance and development.
● Life-long learner, optimistic, flexible, and passionate about helping all students reach their potential.
● Open to change and possess skills that promote student achievement and growth.
● Expertise in knowledge and teaching of dramatics.
● Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Experience
● Minimum of two (2) years successful directing experience preferred.
● Prior experience in high school preferred.
