Job Overview
We’re looking for a detail-oriented and curious Science and Technology Writer to contribute daily news and monthly magazine content for the Research & Applications (R&A) section of Nuclear Newswire and Nuclear News. This role involves researching and translating complex nuclear science topics into clear, engaging content for a broad audience. You’ll collaborate with the editor-in-chief and editorial team, compile R&A content for the monthly magazine, and proofread or perform production tasks as requested. Occasional bylined feature stories are assigned. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a passion for learning are essential.

Job Description

Research and writing (85%)

• Gathers, reports, writes, and edits news for sections of Nuclear News, Nuclear Newswire, and other ANS publications. Writes and edits feature articles, conducts interviews.
• Provides analysis and perspective on topics and trends in nuclear research and applications.
• Develops monthly magazine content as required.
• Contributes to and potentially leads special and/or annual reports produced by the Nuclear News team.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Communications & relationship building (15%)

• Recruits outside-authored feature articles, especially on news coverage areas.
• Develops contacts in the field to strengthen reporting and feature article writing.
• Attends and reports on conferences, workshops, webinars, etc. Travels to ANS national meetings and other meetings as required.
• Assists long-term planning for future issues and special projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong communication skills with an ability to convey complex ideas simply.
• Experience in technical writing or science communication and proofreading abilities, with keen attention to detail.
• Meets tight deadlines.
• Has strong communication and interpersonal skills and has a team-oriented attitude.
• Proficiency in MS Office required.
• Has earned a BA/BS degree in English, journalism, science, or engineering.
• Has worked on the editorial staff of a magazine or similar publication.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
