Director, Safety & Quality Learning Network

Job Summary

The Director, Safety & Quality Learning Network (SQLN) develops and implements initiatives that support Boston Childrens Hospitals SQLN, ensuring alignment with the mission, values, and strategic goals of the organization. This role provides leadership to individuals and interdisciplinary teams to advance patient and family outcomes through a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement. The Director collaborates closely with senior leadership, management, and physician partners to achieve programmatic goals, balancing visionary leadership with attention to operational detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the SQLN home base platform as a central hub for resources in safety, quality, process improvement, human factors, and simulation.
  • Develop and implement programs that advance the Safety and Quality Learning Network and support a culture of excellence.
  • Support strategies that drive cultural transformation to achieve the programs vision, including:
    • Program launch and communication
    • Performance monitoring and evaluation
    • Risk management
    • Internal and external reporting
  • Support the design and delivery of flexible learning experiences, from short courses to extended, multi-month programs.
  • Manage networking events that foster collaboration across roles and disciplines.
  • Oversee symposiums and conferences focused on innovation in safety and quality.
  • Lead the scholar cohort program, pairing participants with expert mentors and peer networks for project-based learning.
  • Support the development of a formal leadership training program to cultivate future leaders in safety and quality.
  • Oversee budgets, administrative processes, and information systems to ensure effective program operations.
  • Lead individuals and teams to apply quality principles and continuously improve performance outcomes.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, management, and physician colleagues to align efforts and achieve programmatic goals.
  • Foster an environment that promotes excellence, equity, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Develop and implement equitable processes for staff selection, evaluation, promotion, and, when necessary, termination in alignment with system standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree in a healthcare-related discipline (e.g., public health, quality systems management, business administration, or a clinical field).
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in safety and quality, innovation, research, or a related area.
  • Strong background in healthcare administration, strategic planning, and program development.
  • Visionary leadership with the ability to manage both strategic initiatives and day-to-day details.
  • Proven leadership and team management abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving and criticalthinking skills.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement across diverse roles and disciplines.
